What does a mentor do?

Mentors provide teens with the ability to have a consistent, stable relationship with an adult, ask questions, and share about their lives. Mentors are caring, empathetic, and genuine — providing opportunities for teens to be seen and heard.

Teens in the foster system have many adults in their lives. However, most of these adults are required be in a teen’s life because it is their job. Mentors are different; they are there because they want to be. It’s vital that foster youth have adults in their lives who are there because they want to be, not because they are paid for it.

To be a mentor, you don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have all the answers.

You just have to be there.
